Mother's Tear Ukraine 2022 The Project

This project was created with the purpose to demonstrate what fear and psychological challenges civilians in Ukraine are facing during the war conflict of 2022. We collected one hundred short heartbreaking text messages - each one is a story that shows the desperation and horror of ordinary people.

About

How it all began

When all it started I created a volunteering group to provide free psychological help for Ukrainians. At the moment there are about 15 thousand members.

We have around 430 heroic team members, most of them are Ukrainians who consult when they do not hide from bombs themselves and try to stay positive while their lives are in danger as well.

What is this project about

I knew people would be stressed and scared but when actual consultations began I was shocked by how extremely high this stress is.

Some mothers are getting crazy because it seems the next bomb will kill their children.

Other mothers cry all day long because their sons pick up rifle for the first time to defend their homeland.

Another woman gave birth to a child in the subway station and is terrified for a child's health because the subway is not a hospital but a cold and overcrowded place with no medical equipment.

People are scared of the lives of their loved ones, because no essential medicine is available - with the drug stores closed because of a war

Why do I think this project is important

I decided to show where the autocracy and sick ambitions of one person could lead. When human lives have no value, but will to rule the country forever justifies any crimes against humanity

For nine days of consultations, we received more than 2000 requests for psychological help (mostly from women). These people got serious mental trauma which will stay with them probably forever.

This war is a pointless act of aggression and is a crime against humanity. No political reasons can justify this. The war should be stopped immediately and never happen again.

Few words about me

My name is Oleksandr Pozhydaiev.

I'm 36 and I live in Kyiv, Ukrainian capital.

I used to run my small e-commerce business with 8 employees, cycle my mtb bike on weekends, travel on my motorсycle in Europe and rarely play games on my PS4.

I planned to go skiing in Bukovel resort (Ukraine) soon but on 24 of February everything changed with a rocket strike near my parent’s home.
